Carolin Milner

Carolin June Vanya Milner is married to Perry Milner, they have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. Milner has resided in Prairieville for 30 years. She draws and paints mostly in oils and watercolors.

While in fourth grade she began taking oil painting lessons from a neighbor lady while living near Liberty , TX . Two years later her dad was transferred to Jennings , LA. And she took a few private lessons from a local artist.  But after a year or two, Caroilin transferred her interests to music, playing in Middle and High School Band and singing in church choir.

After marriage, and the birth of our first child, Carolin began drawing pictures in crayon on colored construction paper to decorate his room. She continued using this technique as a creative outlet until pregnant with her third child.

Some one gave her a small set of paints and brushes and a cheap canvas, and she produced a painting of an old barn and cistern. Her associate pastor, Fr. Mike Collins, encouraged Carolin to donate it to the Parish Fair Auction. “Can you imagine my surprise when told that small 8x10 work went for $35.00?” stated Carolin.   Well, that was her motivation to continue with art. Since she did not remember too much from those early classes, she checked out every book she could find in her local libraries on painting, drawing and composition.

A few years later, after moving from Baton Rouge to Prairieville, Carolin began teaching children and adult beginning oil painting classes at the old Ben Franklin Store on Hwy. 42 in Galvez. After that store closed she taught in her home. Encourage by Mr. Louis Roussel and her husband, she applied to teach at a Catholic school, and was hired as art teacher. Two years later she enrolled at LSU in the College of Art and Design and graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine and Studio Arts and a minor in English, earning a 3.7 gpa. (This proves one is never too old to learn!)

Currently Carolin is teaching art to K-8 students at Most Blessed Sacrament School and serving as Public Relations Director for the school.

Through River Region Art Association and other contacts, her work has been in several exhibits, and she has won a few ribbons. “My preferred medium is oils, claims Carolin, “ but I also enjoy working in watercolor, pastels, mosaics and ceramic clay.”   She even admits she still likes to pick up a box of crayons and a sheet of construction paper every now and then!
