Dawn Broussard Dawn Broussard was born, raised, and currently lives in Gonzales, LA. She has been drawing ever since she can remember. Talent for music and art runs in the Broussard family. Dawn has a great-great aunt, Verble Leuallen, who was a renowned oil painter in North Louisiana. Her father does leatherwork, her brother woodworking, and her sisters are great at crafting. Her family enjoys making things and sharing their gifts. Dawn tries to show how she sees the world through her artwork. She prefers animals and nature to other subjects. But she does enjoy drawing children. Dawn is an avid horse person. She currently competes locally , but has competed statewide and nationwide in both amateur and semi professional levels in timed events , roping, and various other equine events. “Anybody who knows me knows my first passion is my horses, “ claims Dawn. “Whether it's riding them, raising them, training them, or training people to ride them, I've always been around them for as long as I can remember. If I'm not fooling with the horses then I'm usually drawing them.” Eventually Dawn began to use photography to capture horses for background information to complete her drawings. She enjoyed it so much that now she is hooked on action photography. Currently Dawn is mainly doing pencil sketches & dabbling with digital photography. She has done some pastels, charcoal, and pen & ink. Eventually she plans to move into painting & possibly later in life into writing. If art could become Dawn’s sole source of income that would be great! But in reality, her artwork is just a brief escape from the real world, something to help her relax, to enjoy, & invoke good memories. “If sharing my art helps one person to do that, then I have accomplished something,” exclaims Dawn. Dawn believes that art is just sharing with other people how you see the world. There’s no right or wrong way of doing it. She enjoys “speaking” to people through the art of imagery with her drawings and photography. Dawn is a member of the River Region Art Association and enjoys displaying her art for others to see. She has collected several awards for her talent with art and of course has captured many awards in the arena with horses.
