River Region Art Association

River Region Art Association is a place where creativity flows.  Its region covers the Louisiana parishes of Ascension, Assumption, Iberville, Livingston, St. Charles, St. James and St. John.  Membership is open to supporters of the arts and to all artists, both emerging and established.

Vision

River Region Art Association will be recognized as a regional leader in the arts and located in a viable cultural center that is a place of opportunity for artistic creativity, learning, and inspiration.

Mission

The River Region Art Association, founded in 1993, is the area’s leading regional art organization.  Its mission is to bring artists and arts advocates together to improve public awareness of all art forms.  The association supports local artists, promotes the arts in the community, and provides educational opportunities for emerging and established artists, students, and the general public.

Locations

Depot Gallery – The Depot Gallery of River Region Art Association serves as the primary location for its art gallery, workshops, classes, meetings, receptions, resource library, and office space.  It is located in the historic railway Edenborn Depot building that was built in 1906 by the Louisiana Railway & Navigation Company.

The gallery is located at 1008 W. Hwy. 30 in Gonzales, which is across the highway from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and next door to the Ascension Chamber of Commerce.  Hours are 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Wednesdays – Sundays.  It is staffed by volunteer members.  On year-round display are more than 200 pieces of original art created by members of the association.  Included are Folk art, fine at, paintings, pottery, jewelry, and so much more.

River Region Art Gallery at Houmas House – The River Region Art Gallery at Houmas House is a secondary gallery of fine art, folk art, photography, jewelry, pottery, dolls, wood, fabric and literary art, all created by members of the association.  It is located in the Houmas House Plantation Gift Shop at 40136 Hwy. 932 (River Road) in Darrow, LA and is open daily from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Support

River Region Art Association is funded in part through the generosity of individuals and area businesses, and the Parish of Ascension and through in-kind support from the City of Gonzales and Houmas House Plantation.  It is also supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge.
